Congratulations to Petar on passing his Shodan grading yesterday in Bath. Well done!
Sensei Jamie passed his Sandan (3rd dan) grading today. Congratulations sensei and well done!
The club competed at the KUGB Shotokan Cup on 14 September and came back with great results. Sensei Jamie won 3rd at the Senior men’s Individual Kumite, Angela won 3rd at the girl’s individual kumite under 5’3″ and Stefania won 1st at the girl’s 10-11 kumite.
Sensei Jamie will be on holiday from Friday 5 July for two weeks. Sensei Malcolm Williams will be teaching the classes on Wednesdays and Saturdays (6th, 10th, 13th & 17th) and Petar and Angela will be teaching on Tuesdays (9th & 16th). Sensei Jamie will be back for the lesson on Saturday 20 July.
Often during kumite the sparring opponents would freeze after a clash thinking there was a score whilst the referee doesn’t actually indicate so or calls “yame”. In the following video this is exactly what happens – the opponents clash then freeze.
The first to recover, Lyoto Machida in red, quickly capitalises on his opponents momentary confusion and scores a relatively easy ippon. So, this coming Saturday, don’t stop until the referee calls “yame” even if you think there has been a score.
Sensei Neil Jerome, 4th dan, from the Kenmei Karate Club in Sutton, has started giving lessons in Guildford. Lessons take place every Thursday from 16:30 till 17:30 at the Guildford Spectrum. If you pay by standing order the price is £5 per lesson or otherwise £7. For more details please contact Avi who is also teaching at the club as assistant instructor to Sensei Neil.
After the fantastic response to the recent outdoor sessions held by the Woking and Egham clubs, Sensei Jamie will be holding three more outdoor sessions on the 27th, 28th and 29th of May. These sessions will be between 11am to 1pm, and will be held at the Vyne playing field GU21 2SP.
Prices are £4 per class or £10 for all three.
On Saturday, 20 April, Sensei Jamie will be away for a kumite squad training. Instead Sensei Dave Austin, 5th dan, from Egham Karate club will be teaching the lesson.
