Yesterday, Thursday, April 19th, Sensei Dave Austin gave another thrilling Kumite session at Egham Karate Club. Sensei Austin gave the analogy of a spider waiting ever ready and responds immediately to any interference with its web. Sensei Austin likened the spider’s web to the space around the karateka which they must maintain and respond as soon as an opponent or a threat enters it.
In a series of sparring drills beginning with very basic touch and evade and gradually escalating up to Jiyu Kumite we practiced different scenarios and hones our Kumite skills. In between there were plenty of press-ups just to make sure we keep fits and get back in line quickly.
In addition to the regular Egham Club members the special session attracted karatekas from Woking, Farnborough and Royal Holloway University.
Next session is on this coming Thursday, April 26th.

On saturday, January 14, we held a special training session with Sensei Dave Austin, 5th Dan, who is the chief instructor at the Egham Karate Club. We also had visitors from Egham, Farnborough and Sutton, amongst them Sensei Neil Jerome, 4th Dan, head instructor at the Kenmei Karate Club, Sutton.

On Saturday, January 14th, Sensei Dave Austin, 5th Dan, from the Egham Karate Club will be teaching the lesson. If you’ve never trained with Sensei Austin then you definitely don’t want to miss this session and if you have already trained with him then you already know that you most certainly don’t want to miss this session!
Sensei Neil Jerome of the Kenmei karate club in Sutton has kindly invited everybody to take part in a special session with Sensei Bob Rhodes, 7th dan. The lesson will take place at 18:30 on Wednesday, 7th December. Admission is a bargain £5 and if you live in Woking you are welcome to hitch a ride with me.
